If the World only Reaches Net Zero After 2090

Reflecting on DNV’s new report and the launch of the Energy Transition Outlook 2025: if the world only reaches net zero after 2090, you and I won’t see it.

Reflecting on DNV’s new report and the launch of the Energy Transition Outlook 2025: if the world only reaches net zero after 2090, you and I won’t see it. That can feel discouraging. But there are possible silver linings:

🌻You and I could still witness massive transformation in our lifetimes: power grids rebuilt, mobility electrified, and trillions invested across clean energy technologies. At the same time, we’ll need to focus more on adaptation—changing with a changing environment.

🌻Cutting carbon is a gigaton-scale challenge. Even if we can’t reduce from a giant number in gigaton of addition on an annual basis to zero within our lifetime, we can still bend the curve and help reducing the suffering—for the human and life forms on planet earth.

🌻The skills you and others in this space bring—translating risk, shaping finance, embedding resilience—are critical. Without them, capital doesn’t flow, projects stall, and adaptation lags.

𝗪𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲.

The horizon is bigger than one lifetime—but what we do in ours will define the path for those who come next.

Good luck to all of us!
