Why has Explaining AI Become so Difficult?

We don’t think about them anymore—we just live inside them. So the real question isn’t what AI can do— it’s how we choose to use it, and what judgement we refuse to outsource.
Tools don’t replace humans. It would be catastrophically sad if that were the case.
Tools reveal what we value, how we think, and whether we are prepared.
So what is AI, really? It might be best understood not as a single invention—but as a convergence: Fire was the first energy infrastructure. Electricity became distributed power. The internet became distributed intelligence.
AI gives us leverage on thinking itself.
As an example: AI doesn’t decide whether to build a power plant, underwrite a home, or deploy capital. It compresses analysis, surfaces patterns, and expands optionality—so humans can make better judgments, faster.
The leverage isn't in replacing decision-markers. It's in sharpening them. That kind of leverage—used with care, restraint, and responsibility—can still do good.
