5 Questions with T

What are you most optimistic or excited about in the renewable energy industry?

The renewable energy sector is scaling at an extraordinary pace and playing an increasingly critical role in the energy transition. We’ve moved from thinking in megawatts to gigawatts—and from millions to billions to trillions of dollars. With real capital and sustained commitment, there is a strong likelihood of achieving meaningful, long-lasting outcomes.

What is the best career or business advice you’ve ever received?

Here are a few:

  • Culture eats strategy for breakfast. Work for a good group of people; otherwise, it’s a waste of time.
  • Tony Stark without all the infrastructure is a normal human being. That is how the ordinary becomes the extraordinary, so go build things!
  • People don’t like completely new things, they like the familiar done differently. Understand that real change is really hard.
  • The best way to get what you want is to deserve what you want. Be exceptional. Companies that command astronomical value do so because they are exceptionally excellent at what they do.
  • In theory, every potential issue is important. In practice, every potential issue can’t be of equal importance. (Welcome to my world.)

Why do you find risk management interesting?

Risks exist in silos. Risks exist in the unknown.  If we are in the dark, we are exposed. If we don’t know, we are exposed. Studying risks make them less scary. That is why risk management is interesting and compelling.

What is a lesser-known skill you have outside of your day job?

I’m not particularly skilled in most things outside of my core work—certainly not wilderness survival. Fortunately, I live in an area with plenty of modern conveniences, so that hasn’t been an issue.

What’s one thing still on your bucket list that you hope to achieve in the next five years?

I don’t think in terms of a fixed bucket list. Instead, every few months I give myself encouragement to try something new—or revisit something I haven’t done in a while. Over the next five years, my focus is simple: live well, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy my work.

Risk management isn't about prediction. It's about early translation: creating clarity, structure, and trust under pressure.
